Show/Hide

All word processors are text based. Think of the old-fashioned electric typewriters. If you wanted your name by the signature, you had to enter enough blank lines to get down to the bottom of the letter. When you are working with Microsoft Word, the text is anchored to a line, just like a typewriter. You can see the paragraph marks if you turn on the Show/Hide option.

4. Try it: Proof the Paragraphs

Go to the Home Ribbon

Find the Paragraph Group

Click on the Show/Hide option

When you select Show/Hide, Word displays the formatting codes. Notice, each time you hit the Enter key on the keyboard, you have a new blank line. The symbol is a backward facing "P."

There should be only one paragraph mark, or blank line, between the paragraphs.

Delete the extra blank lines.
When you are done, you can turn off the Show/Hide option.

Keep going...
